Where to Start — What This Group Offers
New to Whispering Flame? Here is what the group actually does, what it does not do, and how to figure out which path fits you.
How to get this resource
Whispering Flame is a registered nonprofit. Three things we do:
1) Tech Help — practical, free help with devices, accounts, software, and everyday technology problems.
2) Tech Protection — guidance and tools to help you stay safer online: privacy, security, digital consent, and awareness of real threats.
3) Peer Support — compassionate conversation, listening, and advice within what we know. We are not licensed professionals and we do not claim to be.
We also use empowerments: structured, issued tasks designed to help members move forward on the things they are working on, with accountability and check-ins.
What we are NOT:
- Licensed therapy, counseling, or medical care.
- A crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or 911.
- A charge-for-service group. Joining and receiving help is free. If anyone tells you otherwise, that is not us.
How to use this: read the three guides below (Empowerment Template, Addiction Guide, and the per-addiction resources). Pick the one that matches your situation. If you are not sure, start with the Empowerment Template and talk it through with someone in the group.
